Passive Vessels and Heritage explore inheritance, vulnerability, emotional response, and specifically to motherhood and intergenerationality. Inherited beaded objects, and methods gleaned from my grandmother’s craft practice, revive past traditions. These contain human moments: processing familial pathology and my own vulnerability as a mother. Objects are held within specific spaces but grow to fill them. The space between object and container provides a moment to focus on the interstices connecting our physical action and our memory. These works lay bare expectations, psychoses, and basic human rights. They embrace transparency to invite shared experience, and although intentionally contained, still flourish.
